Rocket-propelled grenades were used in an early-morning hijack attempt on a Greek bulker in the Somali Basin on Wednesday, TradeWinds has learned.
It is unclear, however, if any pirates actually managed to board the 54,300-dwt Michalakis (built 1977) during the assault which saw crew flee to the safety of the engine room.
None of the Malta-flagged ship’s mixed crew of 25 was injured and the vessel suffered only minor bullet-hole damage, a spokesperson for its owner Seatrans Management Enterprises said.
