A Dubai-owned ro-ro has been arrested after cocaine was found on board in international waters off Portugal.

The 412-lane-metre Agat (built 1988) was intercepted on 27 October, French customs said.

They had tipped off the Portuguese authorities that the vessel was likely to be carrying cocaine from South America.

Two planes and a navy vessel were mobilised.

A total of 49 bags containing 1,138kg of the drug were found hidden in a compartment.
