South African government owned transport group Transnet is to make a ZAR 2.1bn ($350m) investment in upgrading the container terminals at the ports of Durban and Cape Town.

More than half the investment will go on developing a new facility at Durban’s pier one, with the balance going to streamlining an existing terminal at Cape Town to increase capacity, cut box handling time and generally improve efficiency.
