Nippon Yusen and Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha have followed compatriot Mitsui OSK in announcing record first-half profits fuelled by fizzing container and bulk markets.

NYK, Japan's biggest shipping company, almost trebled interim net profit to JPY 21.3bn ($200m), while K-Line, the third biggest after Mitsui, had an even better result, with net profit rising almost fourfold to JPY 15.9bn.

Yesterday Mitsui reported a fourfold rise in net profit to JPY20.6bn.
