As many as 7,000 among the 20,000-strong Nigerian Port Authority workforce could go to pave the way for private firms to take over terminals while the NPA becomes a "landlord" and regulatory agency.
Previously the unions have gone along with the government after being given assurances they would be involved in the privatisation process. A legal action was withdrawn but could now be re-activated.
