The European Commission has approved shipbuilding aid to Spain of 6% of contract value for containerships, products and chemical carriers and LNG tankers.
The Commission said the subsidies were allowed in the case of unfair competition from shipyards in South Korea but at the same time Spain has agreed that no new aid will be given to public yards until previous subsidies ruled to have been illegal by Brussels has been repaid.
