The New Zealand Maritime Safety Authority (MSA) has impounded the 12,600-gt Interisland Line ro-ro Aratere (built 1998) after a row over a rudder fault.
The vessel, controlled by Toll Holdings of Australia, was arrested on Thursday morning after a standoff between the owner and the MSA.
The problem – not the ship’s first in recent months - began when it suffered an electrical fault causing a rudder to move out of control.
