The master and chief engineer of a bulk carrier are believed to be being held for ransom after separatist rebels from the Indonesian province of Aceh stormed their ship and kidnapped them.
The alleged kidnapping in the sensitive Malacca Strait was one of several incidents reported in the latest piracy bulletin of the International Maritime Bureau.
The IMB says around 20 “pirates”, believed to be Aceh guerrillas, boarded a bulk carrier while it was under way off Berhala Island in the strait on 9 June.
