Singapore’s Sea Consortium has signed up for four 7,000-teu containership newbuildings at Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding (SWS) in a deal worth about $292m.
The neo-panamaxes are believed to be the largest boxships that the feeder liner has ever ordered and will be the biggest it owns.
For SWS, the boxship order marks its first in the sector since late 2015.
China’s SWS confirmed the contract, adding that the vessels will be delivered before the middle of 2024.
