The United Nations Security Council will discuss the escalating crisis in the Red Sea as early as Wednesday to try to end the “blackmail” of international shipping, according to a senior French official.
The comments by French ambassador Nicolas de Riviere, president of the Security Council for January, followed two more missiles fired by Iran-backed Houthi rebels in the southern Red Sea, the US military said.
