Average capesize spot rates saw a sharp uptick on Monday, rising by 11.5%.
The leap follows stronger reported fixtures, particularly in the Atlantic, following a diabolical December and early January for shipping demand, especially from Chinese importers.
That said, any uptick is destined to be short-lived, as China takes a break for the Lunar New Year holidays from 28 January.
