Shipowners organisation Bimco has developed a new charter contract clause to help bulkers adopt a new "just in time" approach to cargo loadings.
Grant Hunter, head of contracts and clauses at Bimco, said the aim is to promote efficiency and cut carbon emissions.
The new clause creates a contractual framework to overcome the primary obstacle to just-in-time arrivals, which is a shipowners' obligation to proceed with due or utmost despatch and without deviation.
