The Panama Canal Authority wants to lower the cost for boxships using the neo-panamax locks for southbound transits, according to a new proposed toll structure. But the proposal will raise the cost of LPG and LNG carrier transits.

After consulting with customers, the canal authority said "it was deemed necessary to provide additional incentives to the containership segment—the largest user of the expanded Canal—to revise the tolls for liquefied petroleum gas and liquefied natural gas  vessels, and to reclassify container [and] breakbulk vessels."
