A German boxship involved in a standoff between the US Navy and Somali pirates in the Gulf of Aden overnight has been freed without shots being fired.
Nine pirates who attempted to hijack the 735-teu Magellan Star (built 2002) on Wednesday have been arrested, an informed source told TradeWinds.
The US Navy later confirmed the release and said that nine pirates had been detained.
