Container lines will have little choice but to opt for low sulphur fuel to meet new emission requirement deadlines, a major liner operator has admitted.
“Ship owners are effectively having to decide whether to switch to burning the more expensive low sulfur fuel, or place investment bets on exhaust gas cleaning systems (scrubbers) or LNG powered ships,” says Hapag-Lloyd.
