Daina Shipping, the registered owner of the ship, will pay NZD27.6m ($22.8m) to settle the claims of the Crown and various public bodies including Maritime NZ, Bay of Plenty District Health Board, Environmental Protection Agency, the Minister of Local Government and the New Zealand Transport Agency.
New Zealand authorities have spent about NZD47m in the clean up, but the ship's owners were only immediately liable to pay NZD11.3m
