Bleary-eyed tourists arriving in Cairo Airport at two in the morning were greeted by impeccably dressed, beaming young men posted there to spread word of their country’s “miracle feat”. Ubiquitous posters in public buildings and ceaseless promotional videos on television were celebrating “Egypt’s gift to the world”.
