Dubai-headquartered United Arab Shipping Co (UASC) plans to invest more than $1.5bn on further newbuildings.

The Middle East container line, which already has $1.7bn-worth of vessels under construction at Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI), is looking to order up to 15 more ships of 11,000-teu or 13,500-teu capacity for delivery from 2017.

UASC bosses were in South Korea last month for the naming ceremony of its largest containership, the 18,800-teu MV Barzan at Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries, and had combined the trip with other yard tours.
