An announcement is expected imminently as to the fleet of 12 suezmaxes that have been circulated since May, when TradeWinds first reported Apollo was seeking a buyer.

Several owners have surfaced as favourites at one time or another in the $700m deal but tanker-market sources said this week that Teekay appears to have outlasted the field.

Others said to have been in strong contention over the past few months have been US billionaire Wilbur L Ross, the Stena group of Sweden and Tsakos Energy Navigation (TEN).
