The tanker market boom that has seen VLCC rates surge to multi-year highs is widely predicted to continue into next year. But opinion is more divided beyond the near-term horizon, thanks to a growing newbuilding orderbook and differing views about how the oil glut will play out.
VLCC spot rates have already retreated from levels that topped $100,000 per day on key trades from the Middle East but analysts are still predicting that the fourth quarter will remain robust.
