Entries are beginning to pour in for the TradeWinds Maritime Photographer of the Year contest with seafarers notable among the early participants.
Above is a selection of some early entries.
Quite a few of the photos have been taken from decks and bridges, or, in one case, over the prow as a bulbous bow pushes through ice.
Many of the early contestants have gone for moody dusk, dawn or night scenes that would look good as prints or transparencies but reproduce less well online or in newsprint.
