The event at the New York Athletic Club saw the organisation honour a union leader, a leading tanker executive and a maritime lawyer with its “Outstanding Friend of Seafarers Award”.
The recipients were:
Ian Blackley, chief executive of Overseas Shipholding Group (OSG) and a former master mariner;
Marshall Ainley, head of the Marine Engineers’ Beneficial Association (MEBA), who previously sailed with Military Sealift Command, the US Navy’s shipping arm;
Ray Burke, a partner at maritime law firm Burke & Parsons.
The 250 banquet guests were also treated to entertainment from the US Coast Guard (USCG) Academy Glee Club.
