Scorpio Tankers may have saved up to $15m by tying up a newbuilding order for up to eight medium-range (MR) tankers this year and avoiding the extra costs of harmonised common structural rules (HCSR) and International Maritime Organisation (IMO) Nitrogen Oxide (NOx) Tier III requirements.
The deal is part of a summer rush by owners to conclude orders ahead of regulation deadlines.
