Inquiries by Russia’s SCF Group (Sovcomflot) for a series of high-specification aframax-tanker newbuildings are said to have excited yards in South Korea.
Industry players say SCF is looking to order up to 10 ice-class units for delivery starting in late 2017 or early 2018. The number of firm tankers involved has not been disclosed.
However, the Russian owner strenuously denies it has any intention of booking the ships.
