Compagnie Maritime Belge (CMB) has teamed up with private-equity partners to make a concerted raid on secondhand vessels.
The Saverys family-controlled shipowner and US financial interests are thought to have invested up to $100m on a handful of containerships in the 3,000-teu to 6,000-teu range.
Their latest acquisition, the 4,252-teu ER New York (renamed Cuckoo Hunter, built 2003), takes to seven the number of vessels purchased in an ongoing attack on the panamax market.
