Seventeen years after a Greek-controlled bulker sank in the Mediterranean with the loss of seven lives, a Piraeus court has sentenced two of its owners to seven years in prison for failing to properly maintain the ship.
The 3,000-dwt bulker Agios Panteleimon (built 1972) sank in very heavy weather south of Sardinia in January 1998, carrying a cargo of ammonium sulphate from Spain to Italy.
