Shipowners are calling for the Standards of Training, Certification&Watchkeeping (STCW) convention to be brought up to date with the demands of modern shipping.
In a paper submitted to the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), the International Shipping Federation (ISF) says the STCW convention is based mainly on international oceangoing shipping but it should also reflect the different operating styles of shortsea and offshore-related shipping.
