Company sources confirm the planned investment, saying talks with yards are already underway and contracts will be signed shortly. The ships are earmarked for charter to local operators.
The ballpark figures mentioned for the project suggest that Orix will be paying up to $23m per ship, which is in line with the average market price of $22m to $23m for similar-size newbuildings.
