Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL) has taken delivery of the first containership to cross the 21,000-teu barrier.

CC Tung, chairman of holding company Orient Overseas International (OOIL), hit the nail on the head this week, saying liner operators have a knack of outdoing one another “in building larger containerships relatively quickly these days”.

The record for the world's largest containership was smashed for the third time in two months with the delivery this month of the 21,413-teu OOCL Hong Kong.
