A massive payout has been made to Venezuela in a full and final settlement of claims from the Nissos Amorgos tanker spill more than 18 years ago.
The compensation of more than VEF 1bn ($160m) is a significantly larger payout than appeared to be in prospect, although the bill will not impact the financial result Gard is due to report next month (see story below).
