A dispute between the protection-and-indemnity (P&I) club and the International Oil Pollution Compensation (IOPC) Funds seriously damaged 40 years of co-operation over tanker spills.
The legal conflict simmered for much of last year as Gard challenged the IOPC Funds’ view that it was not the subject of Venezuelan Supreme Court rulings on liability for paying further Nissos Amorgos compensation, so could wind-up the pioneering 1971 Fund.
