The owner and operator of the 6,732-teu MSC Flaminia (built 2001) have filed a defensive action in US courts seeking exoneration from liability in the explosion and fire that killed two crew members and hobbled the containership.

Manager NSB Niederelbe and the Conti Reederei KG (limited partnership) scheme owner told the federal court in Manhattan that they took all steps necessary to ensure that the vessel was seaworthy before the incident in July last year, and no fault or neglect by them led to the fire or resulting damage.
