Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL) is taking a conservative position when it comes to the car-carrier business. Unlike most of its peers, it prefers panamaxes over post-panamaxes.
MOL has four 6,800 car-equivalent-unit (ceu) pure car/truck carrier (PCTC) newbuildings on order at a domestic shipyard, while its competitors — K Line, Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK), Glovis, Eukor Car Carriers, Wallenius Lines and Hoegh Autoliners — are investing in post-panamax tonnage.
