The Meyer family’s shareholding in Germany’s largest shipbuilder, Meyer Werft, has been moved into two separate foundations to ensure family members continue their 220-year-long control of the company.

One family foundation will cover ownership of the German yards at Papenburg and Warnemunde, the other ownership of recently acquired Finnish yard Meyer Turku OY.

The move comes as the next generation of Meyer family members have also been appointed to prominent positions within the business with an eye on one day succeeding managing partner Bernard Meyer at the helm.
