Initial problems found on some of the world’s first LNG-fuelled vessels operating with M-type electronically-controlled, gas-injection (ME-GI) propulsion systems have been solved, according to engine manufacturer MAN Diesel & Turbo.

Hairline cracks were found in the gas injection arms or atomisers, which spray gas into the engine cylinders. Shipyard officials say a fix has been deployed that effectively shortens the arm and these are being replaced where owners request it.
