Jellicoe Tankers is making its shipowning debut by ordering up to eight aframax newbuildings that are being linked in the market to a long-term time charter deal with Shell.

The newbuilding contract involves four firm and four optional crude oil tankers at Daehan Shipbuilding Co (DHSC) in South Korea, valued at $440m in total.

The move into ownership marks the next stage in the development of London-headquartered Jellicoe, which was set up by former BP Shipping chartering executive Lars Dencker-Nielsen in 2012.
