Shipbuilding sources following the battle for the raft of 14,000-teu containerships say HHI has been selected to build nine firm ships, with an option on a further seven vessels.
The number of units is much higher than the five firm vessels, with an option on a similar number, suggested under what was circulated as the company’s original requirement.
Delivery dates on the ships are said to run from the start of 2017 into early the following year.
