Hawaii stevedore trial ends in hung jury

HONOLULU: The trial of a stevedore accused of beating a co-worker over a

whistle-blowing incident has ended in a hung jury - and questions by

Matson Navigation Co over stevedoring work practices.

Defendant Bruce Perry, 27, was accused of first-degree assault on fellow

stevedore Quentin "Rocky" Tahara, 42, who had reported in March 1994

that many Honolulu stevedores routinely work less than one hour of a

five- or six-hour shift.
