China’s Hantong Group has made an unusual move in response to the challenging shipbuilding market. The company, which owns Jiangsu Hantong Ship Heavy Industry (Jiangsu Hantong) and Jiangsu New Hantong Ship Heavy Industry (Jiangsu New Hantong), has invested in a new shipbuilding facility — Jiangsu Hantong WinG Heavy Industry (Hantong WinG).
Hantong marketing director Walcome Cai says the idea was conceived three years ago, so the company could diversify into high-specification ship-types such as LNG carriers and stainless-steel chemical tankers.
