Shareholders of Hanseatic Unity Chartering are forming a new handysize bulker pool as part of an ongoing transformation into a global pool manager for bulkers and boxships.
It will be the third such grouping involving Hanseatic partners following the recent inauguration of those for larger bulkers in the ultramax to kamsarmax range and 1,700-teu boxships.
The handysize operation will begin with 10 bulkers of between 37,200 dwt and 38,500 dwt controlled by Reederei Nord, although there are hopes of building it into a fleet of 20 to 30 ships, says Hanseatic Unity managing director Sergey Simakin.
