Greek courts have acquitted the senior officers of several ships arrested by the authorities last month on fuel-smuggling related charges.
In what appears to have been an orchestrated campaign, coastguards arrested three small cargoships and one tanker in separate parts of the country between 4 May and 29 May.
In each case, authorities arrested the masters and chief engineers of the foreign-flag vessels and charged them with breaching the country’s customs code.
