Signs of liner shipping alliances co-ordinating their newbuilding programmes are emerging, with Hapag-Lloyd said to be in talks to order a series of 10,000-teu containerships.

The German carrier is understood to be looking for around 10 vessels, an order that could be worth close to $1bn for the shipyards concerned, according to newbuilding sources.

Hapag-Lloyd is expected to be co-ordinating orders with members in the G6 Alliance.
