Of the seven newbuildings, which were ordered at an estimated total investment of just over $300m, the company has joint ownership stakes in four.
These were contracted at South Korea’s Hyundai Mipo Dockyard by Westfal-Larsen Shipping and Marinvest/Skagerack Invest. The remaining trio was ordered at Minaminippon Shipbuilding in Japan by Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL).
The incoming ships are part of a fleet renewal programme to support Waterfront’s growth plans, including the relocation of two methanol plants from Chile to Geismar in the US state of Louisiana.
