A tropical downpour did nothing to dampen Stelios Haji-Ioannou's excitement as he led the media around the 170-passenger EasyCruiseOne (built 1990) this week.

The bright-orange ship, fresh out of a six-month refit at Keppel Shipyard, was widely regarded as an unusual choice when Haji-Ioannou bought it last year.

Built as part of an Italian government project for struggling smaller shipyards, the ship, then called Renaissance Two , was one of eight similar, yachtlike cruiseships that formed the pioneer fleet of Renaissance Cruises.

The
