Crude and products tankers are not expected to be major beneficiaries of the Panama Canal expansion, but it remains unclear whether emergence of US crude exports will lead to a new trade lane for the waterway.
The “new panamax” will include aframaxes and suezmaxes, both of which are expected to haul US crude exports, and long-range (LR) products tankers will also be able to use the new locks.
