A project to make the River Elbe safer for the latest generation of ultra large containerships (ULCs) has been set back for at least two years after a Leipzig court ruling.
Environmentalists, including the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), have been seeking to protect the natural wetlands environment and wildlife around the famous river from a massive dredging plan proposed by the Port of Hamburg.
