The flag status of the National Iranian Tanker Co (NITC) fleet has become even murkier after Tanzania and Tuvalu booted out the tankers — but Tanzania was later forced to deny industry information that suggests it is sheltering a fresh batch of Tehran-linked vessels.
And now further doubts have been raised over the international approach to NITC vessels as, despite trading to the Far East with suspect flag status, they have not been subject to any port-state-control (PSC) inspection.
