This would allow vessels to shut down their main engines while in port, cutting local emissions significantly.
Chief executive Daniel Skjeldam says the company is talking to central Norwegian ports to persuade them to install shore power capabilities at their terminals. Hurtigruten has installed the capabilities on four of its vessels already, even before the ports began to act.
Bergen is the only port to have inaugurated shore power so far, although others are expected to follow soon.
