Lithuania welcomed its pointedly named floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) Independence (built 2014) just over two years ago but the FSRU is already much more than just a simple import facility.
The initial focus of the unit’s state energy company charterer KN — formerly known as Klaipedos Nafta — was on security of supply as previously the country’s gas had come from a single supplier — Russia — under a long-term deal.
