Denmark’s Celsius Shipping is cancelling a raft of chemical tanker newbuildings at a struggling Chinese yard and inking a larger tranche of similar ships worth $675m with another shipbuilder at a reduced price.
Brokers say Chinese bulker shipbuilding specialist Jiangsu Hantong Ship Heavy Industry Co has sealed a deal for up to 18 stainless-steel chemical tanker newbuildings from Celsius.
The Danish company is understood to have firmed up a dozen of the 24,000-dwt newbuildings for delivery between early 2017 and the first quarter of 2018.
